Years have passed since thrill killers, Selma Baxter and Derek Thomason, were brought to justice. For the families of their victims, these have been years of mourning and sorrow and even relief. But things have changed. The victims of Baxter and Thomason’s crimes are returning to their loved ones. They bring no messages of affection, no joy, no optimism, no promises of closure. They bring nothing but torment and dread. The house on Ash Street has burned to the ground. What lived inside, now roams free.

I so thoroughly enjoyed Lee Thomas's book The German, that I decided to check out his other books and saw this had no reviews. It's a shame, because while not as good as The German, this is still an excellent and polished horror novel.

Much like his other work, there's elements of a police procedural here, and there's certainly horror derived from the brutality and downright creepiness of the crimes committed. But there's also a large supernatural presence in this novel. What's awesome is that the supernatural elements stay scary. Too often in horror novels, the supernatural can turn into the absurd, and the horror is lost. I was worried that would happen in this novel at times, but just when things start seeming trite or seem to be coming together a little too nicely, Thomas throws a curve ball that I was not at all expecting. There's some nice twists on standard fare throughout the novel. Loved ones returning from the grave to blame survivors for their deaths? Brilliant. Even with 10 pages remaining, I still wasn't sure how it was going to end. This is a book that will keep you on the edge right up to the final page, and it's one that I will remember. That is the mark of good horror.

A great haunting tale. Lee Thomas put a new spin on the Haunted House stories we've all read. I loved the 1st 7/8 of the book the ending IMO didn't hold up to the rest of the book. Overall a great fun read.
As usual his work is excellent, I am always amazed at his use of words and ability to tell a story. I highly recommend it.
good. I've liked both the novels I have read by this author. Consistent forward movement of the story.
LOVE good old scary, horror kept me turned around right up until the end. Twisted and terrible but in a way I did not expect. Don't read late into the night, it gets creepy. Keep the light on!
